I was a bored person when I surf through net before I learn about Special capabilities of Google search engine. Many web sites wanted to register me with them and submit about me such as my e mail address , my name, may be my address and so on even I need a single e book. Many web site need our details when we need download something from it. But who likes to share own details to everyone who ask about it especially ,in online. No one. But fortunately one day I hared about Google searching engine's special query syntax. I search about it and found many details about it (by reading articles and books). So this article about Google's special query syntax.
there are two types of searching engines. "Searchable subject indexes" such as yahoo (mostly known as directories ) who search only titles and descriptions of particular web site. Other one is "full text search engines" such as Google (mostly known as crawlers or meta crawlers) which has one or multiple spider programs for crawl the web and index web sites. So one can search not only descriptions and titles of the sites but also total content of the site.
Every searching engine has Boolean default.(according to Boolean default searching engine determine what to do if multiple key word entered by the user)Google's Boolean default is "AND". It's mean Google search for all key words that has entered by the user. If we entered Toyota cars Google will search about pages that contain both Toyota and Cars.
Google is not a case sensitive searching engine. It's means both Cyber World same as CYBER WORLD and cyber world.
Google not support more than 10 query worlds .If user enter more than 10 query words Google Searching engine will ignore additional words.
Okay that is little bit about Google basics (Probably there are more than above but I mainly focused on Google special syntax)
With the help of Google special syntax we can search for specific part of web pages or special kind of information.
We can also combine this syntax for get more narrow results . The point is many syntaxes work together fine but some of them don't. So we have to be aware.
Okay here comes the Google special syntax
1 intitle: restricts your search to the titles of web pages.
E.g intitle:"cyberworld"
2 inurl: restricts your search to the URLs of web pages. This syntax tends to work well
for finding search and help pages, because they tend to be rather regular in composition.
Mixing with "index of" option you will get interesting results.
e.g
inurl:admin this will bring all web pages which have "admin" in their url
3 "index of " this is the one of most useful special syntax of Google. Using this syntax you will find directory listings of specific folders on servers.
e.g
"index of" books - this will bring you to book directory on servers.(if such directory is available)
4 intext: searches only body text (i.e., ignores link text, URLs, and titles)
intext:"yahoo.com"
intext:html
5 inanchor: searches for text in a page's link anchors. A link anchor is the descriptive
text of a link.
6 site: allows you to narrow your search by either a site or a top-level domain.
site:loc.gov
site:thomas.loc.gov
site:edu
site:nc.us
6 link: returns a list of pages linking to the specified URL.
7 cache: finds a copy of the page that Google indexed even if that page is no longer
available at its original URL or has since changed its content completely. This is
particularly useful for pages that change often.
7 filetype: searches the suffixes or filename extensions. We can search for different file types then Google will bring respect file type instead *html file
e.g
filetype:doc (for word files)
filetype:xls (for excel files)
just like that you may find more interesting results using filetype:db or filetype:mdb.
We can also add phrase before it
homeschooling filetype:pdf
hacking filetype:pdf
8 related:, as you might expect, finds pages that are related to the specified page.
9 info: provides a page of links to more information about a specified URL. Information
includes a link to the URL's cache, a list of pages that link to that URL, pages that are
related to that URL, and pages that contain that URL. Note that this information is
dependent on whether Google has indexed that URL or not. If Google hasn't indexed that
URL, information will obviously be more l imited.
info:www.oreilly.com
info:www.nytimes.com/technology
10 phonebook:, as you might expect, looks up phone numbers.
phonebook:John Doe CA
phonebook:(510) 555-1212
there are more special syntaxes such as allintitle, allinurl, allintext but this strings hard to combine with others. You can get experienced try them by your self.
combining syntaxes will bring more interesting results.
We can also combining two or more particular syntaxes and narrow our results.
- guessing is more important when you search for resources using this manner. You have to guess the file names /sites and directories. But this is fun than surf one page to another one site to another registering and expecting tons of junk e mails.
Check this one
intitle:"index of" passwords or "index of" passwords,PWD or passwd
Actually above queries bring us to real password directories of servers. Most of this password files have encrypted.
We have to be careful when we surf through net using this manner. And be aware to do nothing illegal. we may encounter some web sites which have some vulnerabilities. But our responsibility is not hack into it and destroy the site. Instead we must contact respect web master and notify him.
So that's only I know about Google special syntax may be you know more things. May be I wrote some wrong things so let I know about them. Send all your comments to easyguid@gmail.com
